Ever since the media began reporting on various statistics that people of color will become the new majority by 2050 in the United States and throughout most of the globe, there have been parallel reports circulating about the plight of the oppressed white guy.

Yeah, you read that correctly. White men, who have long lived off of the divine privilege of whiteness, are now pulling out of the ole’ proverbial race card and claiming that their whiteness is somehow prohibiting them from moving ahead in society.

You need a second to stop laughing? Sure, I’ll wait. Okay, got that out of your system? Good. Let’s continue.

CNN published a story a last month asking if whites are racially oppressed. In the story, there were various accounts from white folks who thought that they were losing their country, their identity and more importantly, their jobs to blacks, immigrants and Jews. To counteract their impending loss of white privilege, one of the many things these dispossessed white folks are doing is starting courses at colleges called “Whiteness Studies.”

I’ve tried to ignore these stories, but the same premise kept showing up in other places like in a Public Religion Research study that suggested that 44 percent of Americans believe that present-day discrimination against whites has become as much of a problem as discrimination against blacks and other minorities. Most recently, Newsweek ran a piece called “Can Manhood Survive the Recession,” which highlighted the true victims of the down economy: “The same guys who once drove BMWs, in other words, have now been downsized to BMWs: Beached White Males.”

As defined by Newsweek, these BWMs are the former white corporate suits who are now finding themselves out of work and on the unemployment line with those “other” people. Apparently, its pretty bad for these BWMs—in the first quarter of 2011, nearly 600,000 college-educated white men ages 35 to 64 were unemployed, which equates to a jaw-dropping five percent of the unemployment rate. Shocking, isn’t it?

I find it hard to pity the “plight of the white man,” which so happens to be one of the most entitled positions in our society. Before I can even get to the point of shedding a tear or two for the alleged racial oppression of White America, we must first address the history of racial inequalities against people of color.

Despite Newsweek’s best attempt to garner sympathy, the story failed to acknowledge the other color spectrum of manhood, i.e. men of color who have seen an unemployment rate in the double digits since the beginning of the recession. According to the Center for American Progress, the unemployment rate in 2010 for African Americans and Latinos was upwards of 15 percent compared to 8.7 percent for whites. In that same period, homeownership rate for African Americans and Latinos was 45.0 percent and 47.0 percent, respectively, while the homeownership rate for whites was 74.7 percent.

According to the National Urban League’s 2010 State of Black America report, whites are still more than one and a half times as likely as blacks, and more than two and a half times as likely as Latinos to hold a bachelor’s degree. Also, whites are more likely to have health insurance and six times less likely to be incarcerated.

By definition, oppression is the systematic mistreatment of one group of people by another group of people or by society as a whole, with institutional power as a means of asserting that mistreatment. By sheer birthright, white men have had a historic advantage to feel secure in the fact that when it says ‘All men are created equal’ that it really means ‘all white men.’

So Mr. White Man, if you still feel like society is giving you the short end of the stick than it’s best not to point the finger at blacks, Hispanics or women. Instead, point it at your fellow white men at the very top of this pyramid, who seem to be doing quite well for themselves unlike the rest of us who are losing out on jobs and benefits.

So just because whites are becoming a minority in America,which they fear, because they feel like karma is going to get them from all the evil they did to other ethnic brown and black people, so they believe they are being oppressed. When they were already the minority of the planet to begin, but a shift in power is changing and western society is collapsing and they fear this, because they created oppression system racism where they ran country socially,politically and economically and they fear they'll lose that if there aren't many whites around. Obama is the so called first black president that come from a Caucasian mother, but he's still controlled by his puppet master which most likely is Caucasoid. Ninja Please!

Actually, the purchasing power of gold has remained virtually constant since ancient Roman times. Now that’s protection!

Gold is Stronger than Crude Oil

If the U.S. dollar continues to go down, that means only one thing: gold is going to continue going up. Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS) agrees. As I wrote last week in Goldman Sachs Recommends Selling Commodities, Goldman didn’t recommend selling all commodities. In fact, while Goldman recommended selling crude oil and industrial metals, it continued to recommend buying gold and soybeans. As the following chart shows, gold has significantly outperformed Brent rude oil over the past three years:

Gold’s outperformance compared to oil is quite extraordinary when you take into account the price spike oil has seen from the recent Middle East political turmoil. Part of the reason may be the continued supply glut of natural gas, which can act as a partial substitute for oil and may be keeping pressure on oil going even higher.

How high can gold go? Many analysts believe gold will hit at least $2,100 an ounce is in the cards over the next three years and upwards of $5,000 an ounce by the end of the decade. While many commodities have surpassed their inflation-adjusted highs of 1980, gold has – hard to believe – lagged and would need to top $2,000 an ounce to surpass its 1980 high.

Ben Shepherd, mutual fund editor of Personal Finance, believes gold is going much higher for reasons other than just U.S. currency debasement. He recently told subscribers that increasing consumer demand for gold jewelry in high-growth emerging markets is also fueling gold’s rise:

NEW YORK (AFP) – Thousands of job-hungry applicants sank their teeth into a McDonald's mass hiring event Tuesday, with the fast-food giant attempting to sign up 50,000 new employees across America in a single day.

The home of the Big Mac turned itself into Big McJob as 14,000 US outlets laid out the welcome mat, each looking to fill on average three to four positions.

For job seekers in a still shaky, post-recession economy, the offer was a rare glimmer of hope.

New Yorker Thomas Hill, 24, raced to make it to as many interviews as possible before the day's end. The New York area counts 620 McDonald's and by mid-morning Hill and a friend had already interviewed at five.

"I'm open to any position. I'd do anything. I just need the finances to get myself steady," he said after interviewing at a midtown Manhattan outlet.

Wearing pointed black leather shoes, an over-sized tie, and a velvety jacket embroidered with sequins, Hill said: "We got up early and we got dressed nicely."

Bosses are keen to dispel the common perception of McDonald's jobs as low-wage and low-prospect.

Applicants are given leaflets promising "fun in a fast-paced environment," a chance to "feel good about yourself," and "learn as you earn."

"We love our McJobs and are very proud," said Elaine Diekmann, owner of a Manhattan franchise.

A dyed-in-the-wool McDonald's enthusiast, she's worked for the company for 37 years, starting at entry level and working her way up, along with her McDonald's veteran husband, to joint-owner.

"McDonald's is anything you want it to be. It can be part-time, short-term, pay-for-college type thing, or if they have the interest and ability to go through management development they can do anything," she said.

Jonathan Harris, 21, said he needed to finance paralegal courses that he takes at a New York community college with a view to an ambitious career.

"I want to be a district attorney and work with children and victims of domestic violence," the soft-spoken youngster said after putting in his McJob application.

Demand was also fierce for the 2,500 jobs on offer in the Chicago area, where McDonald's is headquartered.

John Lemond, 21 came dressed in a red shirt and tie in hopes of standing out from the crowd of applicants.

"I'm not picky at all -- I just need a job," he said while waiting for his turn for a brief interview at a franchise in the suburb of Evanston.

Chris O'Conner, 32, is hoping for a job in management but also said he was willing to take anything.

He's working a couple part-time jobs right now and is drawn to the health care and other benefits McDonald's offers.

"I'm looking for something full-time with benefits and a job I can grow in," he said as he waited with his hands resting on his application.

"McDonald's, they have a very good reputation as a very fast growing company. They have different career opportunities that appeal to me."

Managers declined to say how much they were offering candidates.

Nicole Curtin, a spokeswoman for McDonald's, said benefits include medical coverage and education support, although wages could go as low as the national minimum of $7.25 an hour.

"Some of our restaurants do pay minimum wage, but we're not considered a minimum wage employer. Depending on what your position is you may start above minimum wage," Curtin said.

In 24-hour outlets the work and the odd shifts can be demanding. With the pressure of fast-food, sometimes grumpy customers, and modest pay, the employee is still expected to serve with a smile.

But that's OK, New York franchise manager Daisy Perez said: "We train people to smile."

The number 11 finds itself embedded in the very fabric of existence. Observed in both the heavens and in the workings of shadowy world rulers, there are three schools of thought as to how this could be:

* The first points towards a series of 'inevitable events' deep rooted in the fabric of material existence. Fate so to speak and that the universe is playing out its script.

* The second speculates that 'the powers that be' have realised the significance of the number 11 in our ancient past and hijacked it for their own gain.

* The third leads to an assumption that the pyramid builders, are the same people in control today, and have used the number 11 symbolically throughout recorded history. Could it be that this 'intelligence' at work, created the solar system (so as to explain the connections between the number 11 and the universe) or is it simply working to a universal numerical code?

The above information is all based on published fact, without even going into my own experiences with the numbers 11:11.

At first I held my own reservations about the significance of the number 11, until I found it work itself into my life.

Most, if not all of my knowledge and research in this blog, found its way into my life through moments where I've see an 11:11 on a digital clock, on the microwave or on the TV. Of late, these have taken a new form, including full blown audible 11:11's from random members of the general public and arrangements of seemingly random objects forming something greater than just coincidence.

11:11 has come to signify a change in consciousness or at least the exposure of a new reality. Puzzling to say the least, but exciting - definitely!

It seems the many 9-11 forms are part of the wake-up call to resuscitate Lazarus (humanity) from the dead. New connections are coming fast these days, like a flood of information. One such, with a little help, came to me yesterday, April 9, 2004, Good Friday. It is about the number "mirrors."

The "reduced" values of the nines row are all nine, except the zero. The reduced values of the elevens row are 11, not including the 0 and figuring 11 as the end of the reduction. In some systems, an 11 would reduce to 2. When the mirrors of the double digit nines are added (18 + 81, 27 + 72, etc.), the result is 99, which is 9 x 11.

When the mirrors of the double digit elevens are added (29 + 92, 38 + 83, etc.), the results are 121, which is 11 x 11.

When a zero is placed between the double digit numbers, the nines result in mirror addings of 909 and the elevens result in 1111. (108 + 801, 207 + 702, etc., and 209 + 902, 308 + 803, etc.)

When each number set of the two rows above are added, the results are:

0 20 47 65 83 101 (center) 119 137 155 173 200

Except for 0, 20, and 200, the numbers all "reduce" to 11. Adding the eight numbers that reduce to 11 (47 through 173 above) totals 880. That is an octave of the note of "A" in music, and is half a mile in yards. All the numbers added comes to 1100. Each pair on the sides of the mirror add to 220 (20 + 200, 47 + 173, etc.).

One can also "mirror" the flight numbers of the terrorist attacks of

September 11, 2001:

The "mirror" number 571 may have been a BIG hint. A movie was paying at the time, "U-571," which is about finding a the solution to a secret code under the water. Another movie playing was "Ocean's Eleven." Coincidence? I think not!

I also doubt it was a coincidence that prior to 9-11-01 there were 777 NYC firemen killed in the line of duty, while 343 were killed on that one day (343 = 7 x 7 x 7). Yet another unlikely coincidence was the 11-9-65 blackout in the Eastern US, 36 years prior to 9-11-01. In this case, subtract mirror numbers:

911 - 119 = 792

That is a base ten harmonic of a major Gematrian number, (11 + 11) x 360 = 7920. It is the diameter of the planet Earth in miles. My snail mail friend, Paul, dreamed that number years ago. After I informed him that it was Earth's diameter, he pointed out that the word, "Gematria," means "measuring the Earth!"

You may know that a box around the Earth is part of the New Jerusalem Plan, giving 4 x 7970 = 31680 miles, the sublunar distance around the New Jerusalem, while 3168 is associated with "Lord Jesus Christ." Yet another coincidence is that Bethlehem is at 31.68 degrees latitude.

All of the numbers in the last list above were airline flight numbers in the 9-11-01 attacks, except for number 39. It is, however, part of the other code sequence I mentioned above concerning the triplet numbers.

Real Experts Speak! Japanese Radiation Risk In US, 400,000 To Develop Cancer In Japan

On March 11th, 2011 an earthquake and ensuing tsunami rocked Japan, killing thousands and causing upwards of three partial or full meltdowns at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant.

Corporate experts and nuclear industry shills have continuously claimed that the dangers are minimal, pushing the lie that the disaster was smaller and less severe than Chernobyl.

Thankfully, two experts have come forward and reported the real dangers of this large scale nuclear disaster.

On March 15th, Dr. Russell Blaylock, M.D said that if a radiation plume from Japan hit the U.S. west coast it could pose a threat to the nations crops and the people that eat them. As we know, levels of radiation in milk in three states has been recorded at much higher levels then normal, causing some to believe that the radiation has indeed hit the U.S. food supply.

As we have noted in multiple articles, the risk in the United States is not radiation sickness, instead there will be an increased risk of cancer.

“Most of the health risks are not going to be due to acute radiation poisoning,” Blaylock told Newsmax. “It’s going to be a risk of increased cancer.

“When we look at Chernobyl, most of West Germany was heavily contaminated. Norway, Sweden. Hungary was terribly contaminated. The radiation was taken up into the plants. The food was radioactive. They took the milk and turned it into cheese. The cheese was radioactive.”

We now know that milk/cheese has been contaminated and products bought in a grocery store in San Fransisco tested positive for radioactive iodine 131.

A French research body on radioactivity has stated that the radiation levels that have been found in Europe are no longer negligible and pregnant women and children should avoid risky behavior.

Meanwhile, Dr. Chris Busby, a leading expert on the effects of radiation on the human body, has stated that 400,000 people in Japan may die from cancer.

It is clear that the so called experts that the corporate media has promoted are nothing more then nuclear industry/government lackeys and without people such as Russell Blaylock and Dr. Chris Busby information on the Fuksuhima disaster would be completely censored.

April 13, 2011 – INDONESIA - Parts of Indonesia are under siege by swarms of hairy caterpillars, which are getting into homes and causing skin rashes, according to local news reports. “The caterpillars are very disturbing. They crawl into the house and make our skin itch for days. They have long hairs,” a Jakarta resident identified as Nurhayati told the Jakarta Globe. A caterpillar swarm was first reported in East Java two weeks ago, according to the Globe, and new swarms have been observed in Bekasi, West Java, and Buleleng, Bali. The caterpillars are targeting the leaves of mango trees in Bali, according to a Bali Times report. Bali agricultural chief Made Putra Suryawan said Wednesday that authorities there are spraying insecticide and burning garbage to stop the spread of the insects, according to an Agence France Presse report on kompas.com. Suryawan said the species of caterpillars had not yet been identified. Their elevated numbers could be caused by a lack of predators, he said in the AFP report. “There’s a reduction in the number of birds and ants that feed on these caterpillars. People catch the birds to sell them and catch the ants to feed their pet birds,” Suryawan is quoted as saying. –CNN

Kala Krushan Swain (35) was attacked by the bees while he was going to a local temple. He died on his way to hospital. Four passers-by were also stung and they were hospitalized. This was the third incident in two months in Ganjam and Kandhamal districts where three persons died in wild bee attack. -IBN

New Zealand – A thick swarm of small, hairy, fatty critters are invading homes all over South Canterbury in plague proportions. Cluster fly season has returned with a vengeance, leaving weary homeowners vacuuming daily and battling with sprays to keep the thousands of mites from taking over their home. David Curry, of Timaru-based company The Exterminator, said the phone had been running red hot. He described it as plague proportions. Cluster flies, named because of their ability to communicate with each other using a scent to summon themselves into clusters, were plaguing the whole district, mostly in rural areas, he said. “I’ve been to Geraldine and I’m down in Waimate doing some now,” he said yesterday. The first signs of cluster flies began a month ago. “Because they come en masse, it’s hard to control them all.” They’re just everywhere. It’s just unbelievable where they’re getting in.” When they would disappear depended on the weather, he said. The recent warm autumn days, where the flies fill buildings looking for a place to hibernate, meant the problem could last for some time. “It’ll be until we get the real cold snap,” Mr Curry said. “If we get real bad weather, that could be it because they’ll be killed off or they hibernate.” –Stuff NZ

Longtime Hollywood actress Ashley Judd has released a memoir this past Tuesday (April 5) and in it the daughter of celebrated country music singer Naomi Judd and half-sister to singer Wyonna Judd blasted rap stars Snoop Dogg and Diddy.

A known global advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness, Ashley Judd spoke fondly of her work with the YouthAids campaign but offered blistering disdain for Snoop and Diddy’s inclusion in the campaign where she serves as an ambassador.

Judd’s resistance to Snoop Dogg and Diddy was rooted in the idea that the actress is a strong of opponent of hip hop and she offered some insight within her book. “Along with other performers, YouthAIDS was supported by rap and hip-hop artists like Snoop Dogg and P. Diddy to spread the message ... um, who? Those names were a red flag,” she said.

Judd went on to add, “As far as I'm concerned, most rap and hip-hop music – with its rape culture and insanely abusive lyrics and depictions of girls and women as 'ho's' – is the contemporary soundtrack of misogyny." Harsh words indeed.

The well-schooled actress, who holds undergraduate degrees in French, Women’s Studies and a Master’s degree in Public Administration, revealed also in her memoir that she suffered sexual and physical abuse as a child and that she often felt lost. She shares in a new People magazine issue, “My childhood was erratic, chaotic, unstable," she said. “I was so the lost child, who just goes away and can be invisible while sitting in the middle of the room."

As reported last week, in her new book Ashley Judd called hip-hop “…the root cause of poverty and suffering around the world.” And now, she’d like to “apologize”…

After ?uestlove’s initial responses to Judd’s comments, Talib Kweli and 9th Wonder also took to Twitter to voice their sentiments about the issue. Amidst the outcry, Judd took to Russell Simmons’ GlobalGrind.com early on Monday to apologize for her statements, saying that while some of her words were taken out of context, she is at fault for the generalizations she made.

“The outcry regarding my remarks, 2 paragraphs out of my 400+ page book, regarding hip hop and rap, has been astounding as it is out of context…The general theme [now] is to express my gratitude for a chance to learn, to be corrected where I was wrong, to make amends, and hold firm and strong on the original intention and context of points I made, with a commitment to try to do so less clumsily and with more sensitivity in the future.”

She added, “I so regret that my indictment of rape culture as a whole has been interpreted as me blaming rap and hip hop exclusively. That was absolutely not my intention, and I so regret it has had that effect on some people. “

Judd finished by saying her eyes had been opened to a distinction between Rap and Hip Hop, and she’d also been introduced to new music. “Thank you to fans of both [Rap and Hip Hop] who have introduced me to artists whose lyrics embody activism and progressive values. I am glad to have more beats for my playlists. I celebrate the music, its meaning, and those who love it.”

Marie Walsh, Inmate 140217 and Susan LeFevre may all represent the same woman, but the identities represent very different lives.

At 4 p.m. today, the woman now known as Marie Walsh will sit down opposite Oprah Winfrey and talk about her 32 years as a fugitive. On Friday, she’ll appear on NBC’s Today Show as part of the promotion of her new book “A Tale of Two Lives: The Susan LeFevre Fugitive Story,” by Marie S. Walsh, also known as Susan LeFevre.

Walsh, a former Thomas Township resident best known in Saginaw County as Susan LeFevre, was 19 when she was arrested Jan. 8, 1974, with Richard A. Anderson, her boyfriend at the time, for selling heroin to an undercover officer during a sting in Thomas Township.

LeFevre and Anderson both pleaded guilty to drug and conspiracy charges and received prison sentences of 10 to 20 years apiece, though Walsh said she was promised probation for her guilty plea.

“I was put right into the belly of the beast,” Walsh said. “I saw the so-called drug war and how the justice system was really dealing with the drug problem.

Walsh admits to using drugs before her arrest but said prison rehab was reserved for people about to complete their sentences, and most of her one year and 19 days in prison were filled by torment rather than trying to get better.

“They kept telling me they were going to make me scum like everybody else,” Walsh said. “They told me they were going to crush me.”

The 1973 Arthur Hill High School graduate said she decided she had to get out. She said she climbed a barbed-wire fence and her grandfather helped her escape from the Scott Correctional Facility in Wayne County in 1976.

“I didn’t want to be a fugitive,” she said. “On one hand, it felt really good to be free and escaped from such a situation, but on the other hand I was really worried, and I left everything I knew.”

Walsh said the conditions and treatment she experienced in prison led her to write her book.

“I knew how terrible it was to be in the prison system. I could hear rapes down the hallways and would wonder when my number would come up,” Walsh said. “Nobody believes an inmate, and that’s why I’m doing this, because people don’t believe inmates.”

Anderson, Walsh’s codefendant and a Vietnam veteran, served about 2 years before his release. He was killed execution-style four years later. His slaying is unsolved.

A married couple out for a walk along Banner near East in Spaulding Township found Anderson’s body in a water-filled ditch Sept. 29, 1981.

Meanwhile, LeFevre had already made it west to California. She began going by her middle name, Marie, and using the last name Day. She said she made up a social security number similar to her own and obtained a California driver’s license.

“I was as surprised as anybody when I got a license,” she said, adding that her new identity allowed her to work low-paying jobs, such as at a mall juice bar, but not much else. “It didn’t seem to matter, but usually, after a year, I’d have to move on to a different job.”

As the years went on, she married and had three children. She said she always was wary of detection.

“I led a pretty normal life,” Walsh said recently from her home in California. “But I always did have to worry. I didn’t just get off.”

In March 2008, authorities received an anonymous online tip, which Walsh said was merely a website listing absconders, that the woman they were searching for was living in suburban San Diego. Investigators confirmed her identity, and federal marshals in April 2008 pulled Walsh over in the neighborhood of the Del Mar, Calif., home where she lived with her husband, Alan Walsh, and three children.

A month later, she was back in the Michigan prison system, and once again she was Susan LeFevre. In September 2008, she pleaded guilty to escape and was sentenced to five years probation and 18 months of parole. In January 2009, parole board members voted unanimously to free her.

She went back to California, and back to the name Marie.

“They destroyed Susan, they killed her,” Walsh said. “Susan was a really nice young girl who trusted people, who believed them when they said they were going to give her probation. I said goodbye to her on my way to California.”

Swarms of rats migrate across Australia

April 7, 2011 – AUSTRALIA – A mass migration of rats is under way into the inland deserts of Australia after a run of high rainfall seasons, scientists say. The native long-haired rat, or Rattus villosissimus, normally lives in the Barkly Tableland of the Northern Territory and in western Queensland. But now it has been spotted in Alice Springs for the first time in 25 years. Peter McDonald, acting scientist with Northern Territory Biodiversity Conservation, said the phenomenon was a “huge event” which he attributed to a run of consecutive good, high rainfall seasons. ”It is unusual in the rodent world but Rattus villosissimus are unique in that way and they are pretty famous for their eruptions,” he added. “Probably the only similar expansion by a rodent is seen in the lemmings in the northern hemisphere with their irruptions. There is nothing else in Australia which irrupts over such a large area.” Alice Springs generally has no rats because of its arid climate. The long-haired rodent was first sighted around the middle of last year on the edge of the Simpson Desert, south-east of the town, Mr McDonald said. Its ability to produce 12 babies every three weeks gives it the highest reproductive potential of any rodent in Australia, he noted

Deep tremors shake large dormant volcano in Iceland

April 7, 2011 – ICELAND – A deep earthquake has occurred at Iceland’s Hofsjökull volcano. The volcano hasn’t erupted in recorded history and is said to have last had activity during the Holocene period according to geologists. The icecap in Hofsjökull volcano is deep. At its deepest point it is 650 meters deep at the most. The deepest points of the icecap are in the main caldera of Hofsjökull volcano. If Chaitén volcano in Chile has taught geologist anything, a dormant volcano doesn’t need a long time to go from dormant to an active eruption. That is why I find it worrying that deep earthquakes have started to appear in Hofsjökull volcano, even if they are extremely rare so far. Over the past ten years or so there has been a slight increase in earthquake activity in Hofsjökull volcano along with increase in hydrothermal activity.

In terms of Icelandic volcanoes, Hofsjökull volcano is more complex than most. South of it lies the Kerlingafjöll volcano. It is a volcano known for its heavy hydrothermal activity. Hofsjökull volcano lies along an east-west-trending area connecting the two principal rift zones of Iceland. It bridges the gap between the Reykjanes-Langjökull rift on the west, which terminates at Langjökull, and the eastern zone, which extends NE-ward across east-central Iceland. Besides being one of Iceland largest volcanoes, its location also makes it extremely dangerous. As it is located in the middle of Iceland, and a glacier flood from it could go many different ways down to the ocean and over large populated areas in Iceland. The deep earthquake is close to the caldera. The earthquake of concern under the Hofsjökull volcano took place at 10:11 UTC on 5. April 2011. That earthquake had a depth of 27.6 km. Its size was ML1.4, so it was a small earthquake. I do not believe that this depth is an error in the SIL system (though sometimes this occurs). A second earthquake took place at 10:13 UTC, its size was ML1.6 with the depth of 1.6 km. Whatever might be happening with Hofsjökull volcano; it’s worth watching even if it’s not going to erupt just yet.

Status update: Mount Baekdu, a dormant volcano in North Korea, which hasn’t erupted since 1903 is showing increased signs of unrest, especially since the 9.0 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami struck on March 11, 2011. In Japan, 19 dormant volcanoes are also showing signs of increased activity. Three volcanoes in the Philippines are reporting heightened activity and the Mt Ruapehu volcano in New Zealand is reported increased emissions of gases and rising temperatures in the volcanic Crater Lake. Three mud volcanoes in Azerbaijan have also erupted since the March 11 earthquake in Japan and quakes are stirring under Iceand’s network of ancient volcanoes. Worms rain down from cloudless sky in Galashiels Scotland

April 7, 2011 – Galashiels, SCOTLAND - A PE class had to run for cover as it started raining worms. Teacher David Crichton was leading a group of pupils playing football at Galashiels Academy when dozens of the invertebrates began plummeting from the sky. The 22 second-year boys had to abandon their lesson. Mr. Crichton said the children had just completed their warm-up when they began to hear “soft thudding” on the ground. The class then looked to the cloudless sky – and saw worms falling on to them. Mr. Chrichton, 26, said he was baffled by the incident, with teachers later finding more worms spread across a tennis court almost 100 yards away. Mr. Crichton said: “We went out to one of our outdoor areas – an all-weather Astroturf pitch. “We were out playing football and had just done our warm-up and were about to start the next part of the lesson. “We started hearing this wee thudding noise on the ground. “There were about 20 worms already on the ground at this point. Then they just kept coming down. “The kids were laughing but some were covering their heads and others were running for cover for a while. “The just scattered to get out of the way.” The teacher scooped up handfuls of the worms that had fallen from the sky as proof they had landed on his class. Mr. Crichton said he and his colleagues eventually found about 120 worms after checking the artificial football pitch and tennis courts… The incident in Galashiels is believed to have been caused by freak weather over a nearby river lifting water and worms and dumping it over the road. Similar events were recorded in 1872 in Somerville, Massachusetts, in 1877 in Christiana, Norway, and in 1924 in Halmstad, Sweden. In July 2007 a woman was crossing a road in Louisiana when large clumps of tangled worms dropped from above.

Philippines major volcanoes now all showing signs of increased unrest

Taal Volcano - Restive Taal Volcano continued to show signs of activity, as state volcanologists recorded at least five volcanic quakes there in the last 24 hours. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Wednesday said it also observed weak steaming activity at the thermal area of the main crater-lake. Phivolcs also reiterated its warning against carbon dioxide in the area, saying gas measurements in March amounted to 4,670 tons per day – double the 2,250 tons per day in January. “The remarkable increase in C02 [Carbon dioxide] concentration indicates anomalous gas release from the magma at depth,” it said. It added Alert Level 1 remains over Taal Volcano, saying no eruption is imminent but the public should strictly observe some safety precautions.
Bulusan Volcano - Phivolcs also recorded at least three volcanic quakes around Bulusan Volcano in Bicol in the last 24 hours. It also noted a “wispy to weak emission of white steam” at the southeast and northwest thermal vents while the summit crater was cloud-covered during the past observation period. No lahar event was reported or observed. Phivolcs said Bulusan Volcano’s status remains at Alert Level 1, meaning the source of activity is hydrothermal and shallow. “Entry to the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited, since the area is at risk to sudden steam and ash explosions. Due to the prevailing wind direction, residents in the northwest and southwest sectors of the volcano are reminded to take precautions against ash falls,” it said. Civil aviation authorities were also urged to warn pilots to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as ejected ash and volcanic fragments from sudden explosions may be hazardous to aircraft.
Mayon Volcano – Phivolcs said Mayon Volcano in Albay did not detect any volcanic earthquake during the past 24 hours, while steam from the crater varied from wispy to weak and drifted towards west-southwest. But it said a fair crater glow (Intensity II, can be seen by naked eye) was observed Tuesday night. Alert Level 1 is also in effect over Mayon Volcano, Phivolcs said. “Although this means that no eruption is imminent, it is recommended that the public should not enter the 6-kilometer radius PDZ due to the continuing threat from sudden small explosions and rockfalls from the upper and middle slopes of the volcano,” it said. -GMA News -April 7, 2011

Scientist warns South Island’s earthquake nightmare may be just beginning

April 7, 2011 – CHRISTCHURCH – People in Canterbury are being warned of more earthquakes and aftershocks for years to come. The Natural Hazards Manager at GNS Science, Kelvin Berryman, says it is impossible to tell for sure how long the aftershocks will continue. But he says previous earthquakes, in this country and overseas, have been followed by seismic activity for up to 30 years. Dr. Berryman says while the current sequence of aftershocks will eventually drop off, there is a possibility it could trigger further earthquakes, beginning the cycle again.

Kashmir plagued by tremors, landslides and extreme weather

April 6, 2011 – KASHMIR – At least 11 houses and another dozen structures were damaged due to landslides caused by incessant rains in Baramulla district of north Kashmir today, officials said. Eleven residential houses and 12 cowsheds were partially damaged due to the landslides triggered by rains on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road in the villages of Checki Kudpora, Lateefabad and Kawhar in Sheeri, 65 kms from here, they said. The landslides also partially damaged orchards in these villages but there was no report of any casualty. Senior revenue and police officials have visited the landslide-hit villages to assess the damage, the sources said, adding that the affected population has been evacuated and has taken shelter at safer places. While high altitude areas of the Kashmir Valley including the famous ski resorts of Gulmarg and Pahalgam experienced moderate snowfall over the past one week, incessant rains lashed the plains including Srinagar. However, there was no immediate threat of floods in the Valley. The MeT department has predicted more rains or snowfall during the next six days in the Valley, much to the concern of the farming community which has started agricultural activities with the advent of spring. An intense cold wave gripped the Valley following the inclement weather as the mercury plummeted seven to eight degrees below normal for this part of the season.

Obama’s Plan on Gas Prices Is…

Following up on our previous post in which a top official with the American Petroleum Institute says we can expect gas prices to rise to $5 per gallon, John Hawkins happens to have piece up today on Barack Obama’s plan to address gas prices … well, sort of.

It’s not exactly about Obama’s plan to address gas prices, because … even with prices having risen 30% over the last year and now averaging $3.69 per gallon (up 67% since he took office) … Obama has no such plan. Only what Hawkins aptly describes as Obama’s Plan To Come Up With A Plan To Convince People He Has A Plan On Gas Prices:

Obama hates the oil industry, he’s blocking drilling in ANWR, he still has the clamps down on drilling in the Gulf — in other words, if it increases the price of oil, he’s favor. If he were honest, Obama would simply make the case to the American people for high gas prices. But of course, ObamaÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s not honest. He’s a diehard socialist with a moderate candy shell designed to trick people into swallowing his leftism.

As John goes on to aptly note, we can expect Obama to continue to make the situation worse while doing nothing more than delivering rhetoric and spin, telling the American people about how important it is to him (while continuing to do nothing to bring prices down by drilling for more here in the U.S.) … essentially employing the same strategy of rhetoric and talking points – and nothing more, that he has used for dealing with the deficit — and look how well that’s worked out for us.

Unfortunately, Barack Obama’s ideologically-based energy agenda runs completely counter to the only solution – ‘expanded exploration and production’ – not cheap talk and taking credit for what other administrations have done. As Howard Rich points out in his Obama AWOL on Gas Prices, the administration continues to say one thing and do another on the rising price of gas — ignoring opportunities to increase our oil supply while at the same time taking credit for production gains that he is actively seeking to dismantle.

Gold, Silver And Oil Are All Skyrocketing And That Is Bad News For The U.S. Economy

The following is one statement that you should get used to seeing: “The price of gold set another record today.” Today, spot gold reached a new all-time record of $1461.91 an ounce before settling back a little bit. Silver is also skyrocketing. At one point today silver hit $39.75 an ounce. It seems inevitable that at some point we are going to be talking about $50 silver. The price of oil is also continuing to relentlessly march upwards. At last check U.S. oil was at about $108 a barrel. All of this is great news for those that are investing in gold, silver and oil, but all of this is also really bad news for the U.S. economy. Why? Well, because when these commodities go up in price it is a sign that the U.S. dollar is dying and that our country is getting closer to economic collapse.

Traditionally, there has been an inverse correlation between the price of gold and the value of the U.S. dollar. Usually when the U.S. dollar goes down, the price of gold goes up.

One of the main reasons why gold has been so strong over the past year is because the U.S. dollar has been rapidly losing value.

So why is the U.S. dollar declining?

Most economists point to all of the quantitative easing that the Federal Reserve has been doing.

So exactly what is quantitative easing?

Well, it is basically like playing Monopoly with someone that reaches under the table and pulls out a bunch of extra money when they are almost broke.

The Federal Reserve has been creating huge amounts of money out of thin air and has been pumping it into the financial system. It is essentially cheating, and it is highly inflationary. The rest of the world has not been amused.

But quantitative easing is not the only issue.

The truth is that whenever the U.S. government goes into more debt, more money is created. The U.S. has been running trillion dollar deficits for several years now, and this has created a lot of new money.

This is another reason why it is so important to get the U.S. government debt situation under control. The Obama administration is projecting that the budget deficit for this fiscal year will be about 1.6 trillion dollars. This is highly inflationary and it will continue to destroy the value of the dollar.

In addition, the rest of the world is beginning to have serious doubts about the sustainability of U.S. government debt. They are starting to lose faith in the U.S. dollar and in U.S. Treasuries.

In fact, investors are losing faith in paper currencies all over the globe. The euro is on the verge of a massive crisis. On Tuesday, Moody’s downgraded Portuguese government debt for the second time in a month. Portugal needs a bailout, but they are far from alone. A half dozen European nations are experiencing a financial meltdown and the European debt crisis could spiral out of control at any moment.

Because of all of this financial instability, investors have been seeking some place safe to put their money.

For many investors, precious metals and commodities have been the answer.

In fact, silver has been doing even better than gold lately. On Wednesday, silver set a new 31-year high for the third day in a row.

People are even starting to talk about the possibility of $50 silver. Most analysts would have considered such talk complete nonsense a year ago.

But now nobody is laughing.

The price of oil is also soaring. Some of that is due to inflation, but not all of it. The truth is that when it comes to oil there are other factors at play.

The U.S. economy has been designed to use massive amounts of cheap oil to transport massive quantities of goods over vast distances. When the price of oil goes to $100 or $150 a barrel, it fundamentally changes the dynamics of our economic system.

Nobody has ever been able to prove that the U.S. economy can successfully handle a price for oil over $100 for an extended period of time.

Do you remember what happened back in 2008? The price of oil hit a record high in June and then the entire financial system came unglued just a few months later.

The price of oil affects the price of almost everything else. Almost all forms of economic activity use energy. Almost all goods have to be transported a significant distance.

It is the stuff modern-day fairy tales are made off, except this one is 100% real. The Chicago Tribune tells a remarkable story of Timeica Bethel, who at the age of 3 was abandoned by her drug-addicted mother and was raised by her Grandmother in Chicago’s LeClaire Courts projects. Her grandmother, Mary Lewis, encouraged Timeica and her three siblings in their love of books, which for Timeica, translated into a general love of learning that propelled her to the top of her class in Hearst Elementary School.

After getting a full scholarship in eighth grade to attend any high school of her choice, she chose a Parker School, one of the top high schools in Chicago. After initial growing pains – she had a hard time fitting in with her much wealthier classmates and felt she might be unable to compete – she blossomed academically, graduating with 3.9 GPA and submitting applications to the whole slate of Ivy League Universities. Although she was accepted to Harvard and Duke (among others), after a campus visit she decided that Yale was the place for her.

And now, a mere two months before her Yale graduation, she’s back in Chicago to pay a visit to her old neighborhood. As she’s taking pictures she thinks about the people who’ve helped her along the way. Teachers who encouraged her, and especially the grandmother who protected and nurtured her and still weeps almost every time she talks of her granddaughter’s success.

Once she gets her degree, Timeica is planning to come back to Chicago for good. She plans to become a teacher and to leverage her inspirational story to inspire other kids, in turn, to aim for and reach great heights, just like she had.

Japan's efforts to soak up contaminated water still unsuccessful

TOKYO, April 3 (Xinhua) -- Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency said Sunday that efforts to stem the flow of radioactive water leaking from the troubled No. 2 reactor building of the stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean have as yet been unsuccessful.

Earlier Sunday engineers injected 80 kilograms of a polymer- based powder into pipes leading to a pit connected to the plant's No. 2 reactor's building, where a 20-centimeter crack has been found to be leaking radioactive water.

The polymeric powder is water absorbent and can soak up 50- times its own volume in liquid and was used in conjunction with 60 kilograms of sawdust and three bags of shredded newspaper, the agency said.

But the flow of contaminated water continues to exude from the seafront pit, the agency said, although the rate of leakage has remained the same and the concoction of absorbent materials have not been flushed into the sea, the agency said.

Earlier moves to stem the flow including attempts to encase the cracked pipe in concrete also failed leaving the agency to now wait until Monday until the plant's operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) can provide new data to check if Sunday's efforts to prevent radioactive substances flowing freely into the ocean have had any effect at all.

On Monday TEPCO will also try to determine the exact route of the radioactive flow by draining colored water from the pit, Deputy Director-General of Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency Hidehiko Nishiyama said.

But whilst embattled utility firm TEPCO has said that radioactive iodine-131 more than 10,000 times the legal concentration limit was detected in the water found in the pit, Nishiyama said that no similar leaks had been found in any of the other reactor's pits at the crippled Daiichi facility.

Local, national and international concerns are rife however due to the escalating amount of radioactive substances flowing into the Pacific Ocean and the potential threat this will cause to marine life and the fishing industry.

Earlier Sunday Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told a news conference that the government believes that it may take several months until the radiation-leaking power plant is brought under control.

"If we apply methods considered to be normal, I believe that it will be something like that," Japan's top government spokesperson said.

"While it may not be feasible, we have been asking for other possibilities to be explored to shorten that period," Edano said, adding that numerous alternative solutions were being considered in an effort to bring the nation's biggest nuclear crisis since WWII to an end.

Edano also said that some 900 thyroid tests have been conducted on infants in the vicinity of the troubled plant, but none of the tests has as yet shown signs of radiation poisoning.

Separately, special government adviser Goshi Hosono told reporters Sunday that individual time frames will be established to curb radiation leaks into the air, seawater and the ground.

Engineers on Sunday also worked to reconnect pumps to an external power source to provide a steady injection of water coolant into the troubled reactors.

The pumps had previously been powered by the facility's emergency diesel generators.

The No. 2 reactor sustained the worst damage following the March 11 magnitude-9.0 earthquake and ensuing tsunami that damaged the reactor's buildings and knocked out four of the reactor's critical cooling functions causing some of the nuclear fuel rods to partially melt and be exposed to the atmosphere.

Marilyn Leisz is suing Dr. Paul Parker for negligence for her eyes-stuck-wide-open surgery. “All the favorite things I used to, like tennis, racquetball, swimming, horseback riding, bike riding, skeet shooting, gardening, I can’t do those things,” Leisz told CBS.

Leisz admits that she had had several plastic surgery operations prior to the eyelid operation. She said she went to Parker, a Bergen County plastic surgeon, to correct bumps on her eyelids from a cosmetic procedure performed by another doctor. But the married mother of two claims she wasn’t warned of the risks, and was told later by another doctor that she wasn’t a good candidate for this surgery because she had had too many other procedures. Now, she can’t fully close her eyes, even when she sleeps: “…To blink I really have to really squeeze my eyes to…fully close my eyes.” She has to use gel at night, and a vaporizer so she doesn’t scratch her eyes; she is losing her eyesight as well.

In the pantlheon of botched plastic surgery procedures, this is definitely up there with four breasted lady. But maybe this is some sort of existential crisis made real—after all, some might say that hell is being in a room with other people without ever blinking.

This is f*cked up, but maybe this will teach her to be happy with who she is and stop chasing a new look with the knife!

This is truly disgusting. This Tennessee man, Herbert Mike Merritt has us re-evaluating the meaning of “gut full of human.” He was convicted of first-degree murder after shooting another man at a bar and then eating part of his lung!!!

Herbert Mike Merritt, 49, shot Anthony Ford, 45, six times before stabbing him repeatedly and devouring his flesh.

Merritt carved open his chest cavity and thought he was eating a piece of heart – but was actually eating lung.

He had told a court he suffered a psychotic breakdown and was insane when he killed Ford at Friends Sports Bar & Grill in June 2008.

Merritt was convicted of first-degree murder at Knox County Criminal Court.

He must serve at least 51 years in prison and will not be eligible for parole until he is aged 100.

Prosecutor Leslie Nassios said: ””He carved open his chest cavity, plucked out what he thought was heart and, by his own account, took a bite of it.”

Nassios told Knox County Criminal Court jurors in closing arguments today that Merritt was a drug addict who exaggerated symptoms to get prescription painkillers.

“He likes to get high,” Nassios said. “That’s his thing. This is not a case where you’re dealing with someone who is insane.”

Jacob Andrew Minton was arrested on attempted first-degree murder after attacking a child in her hospital room

A man tried to murder his girlfriend's two-year-old daughter after she was taken to hospital for injuries she suffered at her home, according to police.

Jacob Andrew Minton, from Wilkes County, was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder for the attack on the toddler in her hospital room at 7.30am Sunday.

The 26-year-old is not related to the child but is said to have been in a relationship with the mother.

Winston-Salem Police Capt David Clayton said the girl was being treated for injuries she had suffered at her home in Wilkes County the night before.

He said investigators are trying to determine what injuries prompted the girl to be taken to the hospital initially.

She was airlifted by a medical helicopter at about midnight Saturday from a location in Wilkes County.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported that the toddler was in hospital for injuries sustained when Minton started beating her at her home.

Hospital employees called police about the attack on the girl who is now in stable condition at Brenner Children's Hospital.

Capt Clayton said the child's mother was interviewed about the incident.

Minton was being held in the Forsyth County Jail on $400,000 bail.

Police said Minton's criminal record in Wilkes County includes larceny, littering and driving while impaired.

A statement released by the hospital confirmed that this was not a random attack.

It said: 'Our hearts go out to the child who was the victim of this senseless act and to the child's family. Our primary focus at this time is the continued care and safety of the child.

'This was not a random act. Information released by the Winston-Salem Police Department clarifies that the man who was arrested was a friend of the patient's mother and was visiting the child with the mother's permission.

'A violent incident like this one is obviously very disturbing to our staff of committed caregivers. Our approach to safety is proactive and continuous. We have many policies and procedures in place -- as well as a well-trained security staff -- to protect our patients.

The Tonga Trench in the South Pacific Ocean is 10,882 meters (35,702 ft) deep at its deepest point which is known as the Horizon Deep. Under the sea, the Pacific Plate is being subducted below the Tonga and the Indo-Australian Plate. In this transform fault zone, where plates also slide in horizontal fashion, the convergence is taking place at a rate estimated at approximately 15 centimeters (6 inches) per year; however, recent Global Positioning Satellite measurements indicate in places a convergence of up to 24 centimeters (10 inches) per year is occurring across the northern Tonga Trench. This is the fastest plate velocity recorded on the planet. This results in the earth’s most active zone of mantle seismicity, where mantle is essentially devoured and recycled. This process takes place under both tremendous heat and pressures. The escalation of seismic activity in this region, Tonga, New Zealand, Kermadec may be one more indication also that geothermal gradient is increasing. The Fiji quake and resulting stress on the Pacific Plate was almost immediately followed by yet another 6.2 earthquake off the eastern coast of Japan. March 30, 2010 – AUSTRALIA - Dead mullet have been found floating on the surface of a Taree waterway for the second time in less than two months. The fish could be seen at the wetland near Nulama Village at Taree North yesterday, also the site of a similar fish kill in February. The heat and subsequent loss of oxygen from the water was blamed on that occasion but does not seem likely this time due to the much milder weather conditions. Some of the fish were found on the banks of the wetland, suggesting they may have jumped from the water. Lanier, born in March 1892 to former slaves, is reportedly ineligible because she does not have a birth certificate---common in the South although slavery had previously ended.

Guinness says it would need a birth certificate to verify her age although she has a letter from the Social Security Administration that confirms that she was born in 1892.

Proper age verification can for the record book can come from birth certificates, citizenship certificates or permanent residence cards, with individuals receiving benefits getting an annual letter with their details on.

Lanier reportedly has no illnesses and only uses a walker for balance at her Warrensville Heights, Ohio home.

The centenarian also does the Chinese martial art tai chi and takes no medication.

Madea Goes to Jail, the comedy-drama starring Perry’s signature drag character, grossed a whopping $41.1 million in its weekend debut, its studio estimated today, the biggest Friday-Sunday take since Twilight’s bow back in November.

I don’t know of any black women who look or act like Madea. It’s a shame that such an offensive image of black women is being uplifted by a black “man” and financed by black people who buy the tickets to that junk. Just goes to show you how damaged we are as a people.

Perry has an obsession with dressing up in women’s clothing. And I listened to an interview with him on the Steve Harvey program recently. I was flabbergasted at the fact that he was unable to do the entire interview as himself; instead, he kept slipping into the Madea character.

There is some straaaaange stuff going on in that “man’s” head!

Black Men in Dresses: Entertainment or Emasculation?

This year there will be three movies released featuring five African American men in dresses this year. Big Mamas: Like Father like Son, Skank Robbers and Tyler Perry’s Madea’s big happy Family. I have to wonder: Is this entertainment or Emasculation?

Many may see these images of brothers in dresses as something humorous. However, I see an insidious conspiracy by the media to strip away the manhood and male identity from the Black Man. Over the past two decades, the image of the black male has been slowly feminized. Little things like Athletes wearing earrings, Hip-hop stars wearing braids and sagging pants may be presented in the media to look trendy and stylish, but I feel it’s part of an effort to effeminate the Black male identity.

And when Hollywood presents three movies featuring Five Black men in dresses I feel it’s sending a CLEAR message to the Black Community: It does not see Black men as MEN. They see black men as their BITCH, a castrated asexual role where they are weak, docile and submitted to their will. It’s less than a man, less than a woman and less than a child. It’s a Joke.

The way Black men are represented today in the media is the most dangerous thing since Willie Lynch’s speech on how to make a slave.

What’s so dangerous about so many movies featuring Black men in dresses? The messages within these films have a subconscious impact on the psychology of how Black men and Black boys are conditioned to see themselves in society. Presenting so many images of African-American men in effeminate roles is part of an institutionally racist plan to humiliate and degrade the image of the Black man in society. And because most young black males don’t have their fathers in their lives they have no idea what an example of manhood truly is. So they think these images are what they should emulate as Black male behavior and their Black male identity.

Worse, young brothers who don’t know any better they incorporate this feminine behavior into their own behaviors. Because the media presents these effeminate images as socially acceptable and even trendy brothers have no idea that their gender identity is being corrupted. Imbibing this media for long periods of time can leave a black male confused to their sexual identity.

I notice that currently in mainstream White media there are no images of White Males in dresses on a regular basis. I mean, how many top White movie stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale are starring in movies where they’re wearing dresses these days? How many top white male athletes and entertainers have their hair done up in braids with ribbons and bows? How many white male athletes and entertainers are presented in the media are dressed in feminine colors or presenting effeminate body language or expressions on a regular basis?

Not that many. But Black men are presented this way on a regular basis nowadays.

I’m urging brothers and sisters to really take a look at the media they’re watching a bit more closely. It’s not just entertainment. The media we watch and listen to influences the way we think and the way we act. It models of what someone else in society wants us to act like. And someone wants to destroy the image of the Black man in America in the eyes of the world.

Putting so many Black men in dresses can't be entertainment. It’s emasculation.

Aaron McGruder mocks Tyler Perry in last night’s “Boondocks” episode on Adult Swim. He portrays the Perry-like character as a closeted gay man named Winston Jerome. Jerome creates a homo-erotic cult which features Jerome as a cross dresser who resembles Madea.

Grandpa, hungry for fame, agrees to be in one of Jerome’s plays and “renounces” his family and “Ice Cube and all his works.”

He even kisses Jerome in the stage play in hopes of getting in the film. He also thinks he’ll be able to attract a coterie of hot “Beyonce”-type groupies. That doesn’t happen. What’s worse, Jerome actually DOES want to sleep with Grandpa. So he bolts.

There’s a scene in which “Rocky Horror Picture Show” fans will appreciate. An in a funny visual gag, Jerome dresses Jesus in a cute blue sweater on the cross because Jerome thought he was cold.

The only odd thing is I don’t think there’s any real evidence Perry places inordinate numbers of light-skinned hottie black guys in his plays and movies. (Jerome does!)

Death-toll rises to 15 from flooding and landslides in Thailand

At least 15 states have found trace amounts of radiation from the crippled nuclear plant in Japan, but officials say the levels of radioactivity are much too low to prompt health concerns.

Very low concentrations of iodine-131 were found last week in a rainwater sample in Boston. "It is not a problem for public safety nor is it a threat to the drinking water supply," said Massachusetts Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Richard Sullivan.

Sullivan ordered the collection of drinking water samples from 12 locations Sunday. Tests showed the water was "absolutely clean," he said.

No radiation has been discovered in Virginia, but state Health Commissioner Karen Remley said she asked that routine quarterly monitoring be conducted this week instead of next week as scheduled. "I am not worried," she said.

The March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan damaged the Fukushima Dai-ichi power plant, prompting radioactive emissions that have been dispersed by weather systems.

Iodine-131 ordinarily is not found in Nevada and can be linked to Japan because of its half-life, said Ted Hartwell, manager of environmental monitoring at Nevada's Desert Research Institute.

Iodine-131 "has a very short half-life of about eight days, so we know it's from a fairly recent event," he said. Half-life is the length of time it takes a radioactive substance to decrease in potency by half.

March 29, 2011 – BURMA (Myanmar) – Of the 7,000 fishermen that were swept into the Andaman Sea during a tropical storm on March 14-16, a total of 3,374 have now been rescued, according to a source close to the Myanmar Marine Fishing Association (MMFA). The remaining 3,700 are still missing. Nearly two weeks since 400 fishing vessels were overturned or destroyed in 70mph winds, little hope remains of anyone else surviving. “There are currently about 400 fishing vessels at sea trying to rescue survivors of the storm,” said the source. “So far, more than 3,700 fishermen have been rescued and brought to Rangoon.” Burma’s state media reported on March 22 that naval ships, large fishing vessels and local fishing boats had jointly rescued 3,374 fishermen. While 3,152 have already gone home, 222 fishermen remain under government care, the report said, adding that the rescued fishermen had been provided medicine, clothes and food. The tropical storm occurred off the Irrawaddy delta coast close to areas such as Bogalay and Laputta which were severely hit by Cyclone Nargis in May 2008. “We already listed 7,000 people as missing at sea along with their vessels,” said an official from the Botahtaung Thanlyin naval compound. “But that figure does not include those people living in littoral areas. March 29, 2011 – ALABAMA — Months after the hundreds of birds fell dead from the sky and after thousands of dead fish, crabs, sardines, dolphins, and whales washed ashore worldwide, more dead fish washed ashore in Alabama, and a dead whale washed ashore in Virginia. There’s still no cause for the hundreds of dead fish that were found dead along the gulf shores over the weekend. They were also found along the gulf state pier Saturday morning. Park officials said it was unusual to see spade fish in that area this early in the year. The dead sigh spanned about three miles of shoreline. The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will take the fish in for testing. In Sandbridge, VA, the carcass of a Sei whale was found Sunday morning. The whale measured 35 to 40 feet long. Staffers from the Virginia Beach Aquarium were called to the site so that it could be secured and would not wash back into the ocean. White Man Who Repeatedly Has Sex With Cow Manure Back In Jail

Camborne, England - David Truscott, a 41-year-old Pengegon Parc man was jailed after he terrorized a family for 6 years by rolling around naked and masturbating in cow manure located on the family's farm

According to Camborne police, Truscott violated a court order in February when he broke into a family farm, covered himself in cow manure and was seen masturbating by the farmer's 16-year-old son.

A judge had placed a restraining order that barred him from the farm after he repeatedly terrorized them with the same behavior over a six-year period.

Investigators say Truscott was first discovered by the family in 2004 when he was seen masturbating while immersed in the feces of a muck spreader. The family began keeping their equipment clean because of his disgusting behavior.

This apparently angered him, so he lit a pen on fire that contained a cow and her two twin calves. Sadly, the cow perished in the fire and Truscott was charged with arson and burglary as a result. He was sentenced to three years in jail after pleading guilty to the charges.

The family's then three-year-old son was so traumatized by the incident that they had to show him every night that the smoke detectors were working, and had to ensure him that the house was not going to catch fire.

In 2009, Truscott was again found naked in a mound of manure on the family's farm. He was jailed for another 20 weeks and this time was issued a restraining order, which he has breached on several occasions since then.

On another occasion, Truscott allegedly entered a milking parlour, stripped down to his underpants and climbed into a huge vat of manure.

He was booked into jail and was charged with breaching a restraining order and harassment. He has been sentenced to 2 years in prison.

Everett, Washington: Land Crack Appears, Neighborhood is Sinking

EVERETT, Wash. -- People living in the Valley View neighborhood of southeast Everett are waiting and watching. A two story house on their block is tilted at a 20 degree angle and could collapse at any moment.

A crack in the earth that first appeared six weeks ago is now threatening about four homes. The City of Everett has "red tagged" the home on Burl which is collapsing. That means no one is allowed near the property.

A "yellow tag" was posted on two other properties where the land is giving way.

A surface slide in the area of Rob and Margaret Lund's house caused their deck and cement patio to completely collapse.

"There is nothing to stop this from happening again and again," said Rob Lund.

Recent heavy rains has caused the sliding to accelerate in the neighborhood. Neighbors said the problem appears to be getting much worse.

"If that house goes, the land will go with it," said Steve Mosman, who lives right next door to the collapsing home. "It would pull our land down with it. We just don't know what is going to happen."

The City of Everett is monitoring the problem daily but has no authority to re-enforce private property. City engineers have recommended the homeowner demolish the collapsing home.

A 6.5-magnitude earthquake has struck off the northeast coast of Japan as the country struggles to mitigate the consequences of its nuclear disaster.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, a 50-centimetre (18 inch) tsunami warning has been issued for the Pacific coast of Miyagi prefecture, which was ruined by the huge earthquake and tsunami that hit on March 11, AFP reported on Sunday.

A massive earthquake and tsunami on March 11 in Japan's northern coast set off the nuclear problems by knocking out power to cooling systems at the Fukushima Daiichi plant and causing radiation leaks.

The government has ordered the evacuation of about 200,000 people living in a 20-kilometer (12.4-mile) area around the plant, and told people living between 20 kilometers and 30 kilometers (18.6 miles) from the plant to remain indoors.

Japan has announced that nearly 28,000 people have died or are feared dead as a result of the disastrous quake and tsunami.

The quake is now considered Japan's deadliest natural disaster since the 1923 Great Kanto Earthquake, which claimed the lives of more than 142,000 people

amounts of radioactive iodine linked to Japan's crippled nuclear power station have turned up in rainwater samples as far away as Massachusetts during the past week, state officials said on Sunday.

The low level of radioiodine-131 detected in precipitation at a sample location in Massachusetts is comparable to findings in California, Washington state and Pennsylvania and poses no impact to drinking supplies, public health officials said.

Air samples from the same location in Massachusetts have shown no detectable radiation.

The samples are being collected from more than 100 sites around the country that are part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Radiation Network monitoring system.

"The drinking water supply in Massachusetts is unaffected by this short-term, slight elevation in radiation," said Massachusetts Public Health Commissioner John Auerbach. "We will carefully monitor the drinking water as we exercise an abundance of caution."

Officials said that at the concentrations found, the radioiodine-131 would likely become undetectable in a "relative short time."

Trace amounts of radiation believed to have originated from damaged Fukushima Daiichi reactors in the aftermath of Japan's devastating 9.0 earthquake on March 11 also have been detected in air samples in several western U.S. states, but at levels so small they posed no risk to human health.

Recently there has been an incredible flurry of news reporting about food shortages and the pending global food crisis. Everyone who looks at the indicators would agree that this crisis is only likely to worsen. It is estimated that the Australia floods alone could cause a 30% jump in food prices. Although the average shopper already can feel the food inflation, it is difficult to recognize the severity of the looming food shortages. After all, there are still 15 types of colorfully-boxed Cheerios packing the isles, which gives us the illusion of abundance.

The truth is that we are headed for large food production shortfalls, manipulated or not, while middle-class food demand grows massively in the developing world. For decades the world's agriculture community produced more than enough food to feed the planet, yet some now believe we are reaching "Peak Food" production levels. In turn, other experts believe the "food bubble" is about to burst, and not even the biotech companies can save us.

However, there are still vast unused stretches of fertile land that can be used around the globe, and the U.S. ethanol mandates that reportedly consume at least 25% of the corn harvest could be reduced to ease the burden. Therefore, it seems that despite the extreme weather and dwindling harvests, food production still has room to increase, but not without foresight and planning.

Additionally, the current systems for growing food are fully dependent on oil to achieve high levels of production, while livestock production is running at full concentration-camp capacity; the end product must then travel thousands of miles to get to store shelves. Clearly we can see the fragile nature of this system, especially on human health and the environment. Consequently, solving the so-called "food crisis" is far more complex than simply fixing statistical supply and demand issues.

Indeed, these are turbulent times where humanity appears to be nearing Peak Everything. Ultimately, solutions to the food crisis will begin at the local level. There are cutting-edge farming techniques gaining popularity that produce a large variety of crops by mimicking nature, as well as innovative techniques for small-scale food production at home or in urban buildings. These hold promise for easing local hunger.

Personal ways to protect yourself from food shortages may seem obvious to some, but many feel the task can be insurmountable. To the contrary, here are 5 simple ways to protect yourself from the coming food crisis:

1. Create a Food Bank: Everyone should have a back-up to the everyday food pantry. In this environment, you should consider your personal food bank far more valuable than a dollar savings account. Start by picking up extra canned goods, dried foods, and other essentials for storage each time you go to the store. Also, hunt for coupons and shop for deals when they come up. Devise a plan for FIFO (first in, first out) rotation for your food bank. It is advisable to acquire food-grade bins to store your bulk dried foods, and be sure to label and date everything. Besides the obvious store-able foods like rice and beans, or canned goods, some other important items to hoard are salt, peanut butter, cooking oils, sugar, coffee, and powdered milk. If you don't believe the food crisis will be too severe, then buy items that you would eat on a normal daily basis. But if you believe the crisis will be sustained for some time, purchasing a grain mill to refine bulk wheat or corn may prove to be the most economical way to stretch your food bank. Some emergency MREs are also something to consider because they have a long shelf life.

2. Produce Your Own Food: Having some capacity to produce your own food will simply become a necessity as the food system crumbles. If you don't know much about gardening, then start small with a few garden boxes for tomatoes, herbs, or sprouting and keep expanding to the limits of your garden. And for goodness sakes, get some chickens. They are a supremely easy animal to maintain and come with endless benefits from providing eggs and meat, to eating bugs and producing rich manure. Five laying hens will ensure good cheap protein for the whole family. If you have limited growing space, there are brilliant aquaculture systems that can produce an abundance of fish and vegetables in a small area. Aquaculture is a contained organic hydroponic system where the fertilized waste water from the fish tank is pumped through the vegetable growing trays which absorb the nutrients before returning clean water to the fish tank. Set high goals for independent food production, but start with what's manageable.

3. Learn Food Preservation: Food preservation comes in many forms such as canning, pickling, and dehydrating. In every case some tools and materials are required along with a good deal of knowledge. If you can afford a dehydrator, they all usually come with a preparation guide for most foods. You can also purchase a vacuum sealer if you have the means. A good vacuum sealer should come with thorough instructions and storage tips, and will add months if not years to many food items. If you're a beginner at canning, start with tomatoes first. It's easy and very valuable when all your tomatoes ripen at the same time and you want fresh pasta sauce in the winter. A bigger ticket item that is nice to have for food preservation is a DC solar powered chest freezer. It is the ultimate treasure chest.

4. Store Seeds: The government and the elite have seed banks and so should you. Seeds have been a viable currency in many civilizations past and present. They represent food when scarcity hits. Before the rise of commercial seed giants like Monsanto, local gardeners were adept at selecting seeds from the healthiest plants, saving them, and introducing them to the harvest for the following year, thus strengthening the species. Through local adaptation to pests, genetic diversity was further ensured; it was long-term thinking at its finest. That is why it is important to find heirloom seed banks and learn to save seeds from each harvest.

5. Join or Start a Local Co-Op: Joining local cooperatives is very important, especially when food shortages occur. You may not be able to provide for yourself completely, especially in terms of variety, so having a community mechanism to spread the burden and share the spoils will be critical. If you don't know if you have a local food cooperative in your area you can search the directory at LocalHarvest.org. You may also be able to get information from your local farmers market. If your area doesn't have a co-op, then start one. These co-ops don't have to be big or elaborate. In fact, it may be more optimal to organize it with friends, neighbors, or co-workers. Whether you join or start a cooperative, work to expand the participants and products.

Shift of Earth's magnetic north pole impacts Tampa airport

TAMPA - Scientists say the magnetic north pole is moving toward Russia and the fallout has reached -- of all places -- Tampa International Airport.

The airport has closed its primary runway until Jan. 13 to repaint the numeric designators at each end and change taxiway signage to account for the shift in location of the Earth's magnetic north.

The closure of the west parallel runway will result in more activity on the east parallel runway and more noise for residential areas of south Tampa.

The busiest runway will be re-designated 19R/1L on aviation charts. It's been 18R/36L, indicating its alignment along the 180-degree approach from the north and the 360-degree approach from the south.

Later this month, the airport's east parallel runway and the seldom used east-west runway will be closed to change signage to their new designations.

The Federal Aviation Administration required the runway designation change to account for what a National Geographic News report described as a gradual shift of the Earth's magnetic pole at nearly 40 miles a year toward Russia because of magnetic changes in the core of the planet.

White Man Who Beat Black Army Reservist in Front of Her Child Serves Only 43 Days in Jai

A white man from Georgia who beat a black female Army reservist as her young child looked on and begged him to stop has been released from jail early.

Troy Dale West (pictured above) had only been sentenced to six months in prison for beating Tasha Hill (pictured below), after they had words while both trying to enter a Cracker Barrel restaurant.

White Man Who Beat Black Army Reservist In Front of Her Child Only Serves 43 Days in Jail, Troy Dale WestWest allegedly punched Hill in the face, kicked her as she fell to the ground and yelled racial epithets.

"I heard my daughter screaming, 'Mommy! Mommy!"' Hill said. "I was scared. I didn't know why it was happening."

During the trial, West's defense presented Hill as a hothead with a history of violence who spit on West and initiated the encounter. While evidence shows that Hill certainly may need anger counseling, West's brutal attack on this woman is inexcusable. I wonder would he have been as quick to attack a man of similar stature?

Despite the beat-down that he issued to a woman, West pleaded to misdemeanor charges in a plea deal that netted him only six months behind bars; he was facing felony charges and 44 years in jail.

It's even more of an insult that West did not serve the length of his short term. Given the way he beat Hill, isn't anyone concerned that this guy might be easy to set off and that he needs to learn there are serious consequences for unjustified violence?

"Someone that abuses a dog gets more time than West got," Hill's lawyer, Mawuli Mel Davis said.

The sheriff in Clayton County, Georgia, said West received two days of time served credit for every day he painted trailers. He also acknowledged receiving pressure from West's friends to release him early, but said he did not relent.

I don't think we should take his word for it. An independent authority should launch an investigation.

Even more disturbing is that I can't imagine a black man in Georgia getting this sort of break if he had beat a white woman, even a white woman who had spit on him. The scars of racial injustice run deep in the South.

"Where I'm from, Mr. West, it's not good for a man to hit a woman. Also, where I'm from, it's not good to spit on a person. I can only imagine what my response would have been," Judge Geronda V. Carter said during her sentencing.

However, West, who was a foot taller and weighed more than 100 pounds than Hill, could have easily killed her. I would be moved to the point of anger if anyone spit on me, but the right thing for West to do would have been to contact police.

West's release also sends a message to African Americans that the justice system does not look out for us. When you talk to young black men who carry illegal weapons, many of them will say that they feel it is necessary to protect themselves because the system is not going to.

Hill's attitude was no excuse for the beat-down she received in front of her child.

She'll probably proceed with her civil suit, but given some of the evidence presented during the trial, she should also proceed to anger-management counseling. Every hot head needs to remember that they could run in to their match one day.

That said, we need to learn to treat one another how we would want to be treated. Despite the stress of life, work and kids, it's not right to take that stress out on someone else.

Accuweather meteorologists are predicting a major storm is set to sweep the country from the northern plains into Ohio - and then re-develop off the mid-Atlantic coast.

Travel chaos is being predicted over the weekend as snow is set to cover a great swathe of the country from the Dakotas up into the north-east.

'The storm has the potential to explode into a major snowstorm that could produce in excess of 6 inches of snow over a large area of the Northeast states and eastern Canada,' Accuweather.com meteorologists wrote.

The severe weather is part of a pattern that has developed across the country, forecasters said - the same pattern that could result in a white Christmas.

The blocking pattern over the Atlantic is creating a funnel for freezing air from Canada to flow down into the eastern U.S., forecasters said.

The frigid air is reaching all the way to Florida, where farmers are battling to save their orange trees as temperatures hit freezing.

The National Weather Service has also issued parts of Alabama and Georgia with freeze warnings.

The cold is set to last for at least two weeks, with few days of warmth in between

Habibullo Abdussamatov, an astrophysicist and head of space research at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, stated that solar activity caused the climate change on Earth and that observations of Mars revealed the shrinking of the carbon dioxide ice caps at the Martian South Polar region.

In that article, Abdussamatov explained: "The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars." The scientist, accurate in past predictions, has recently pronounced his belief that Earth will enter a "little Ice Age: as early as 2014 and lasting as long as two centuries. The last one occurred between 1650 and 1850 and accounted for many crop failures, outbreaks of famines and mass migrations.

Abdussamatov contends, "Long-term variations in the amount of solar energy reaching the Earth are the main and principal reasons driving and defining the whole mechanism of climatic changes from the global warmings to the Little Ice Ages to the big glacial periods."

If his theory is true—and the International Space Station will be testing parts of it over the next six years—then use of hydrocarbon technology should not be diminished, but increased. Only through technological applications in growing economies would humanity be able to "to maintain economic growth in order to adapt to the upcoming new Little Ice Age in the middle of the 21st century," he asserts.

Whereas global warming would be a good thing (despite the gloomy forecasts) a mini-Ice Age could be disastrous: growing seasons would be shortened, more energy must be extended to stay warm, and

food shortages may lead to breakouts of regional warfare.

"Observations of the sun show that as for the increase in temperature, carbon dioxide is not guilty." The Russian scientist is concerned about this move towards an extending cooling period. He states, "and as for what lies ahead in the coming decades, it is not catastrophic warming, but a global, and very prolonged temperature drop."

For years, people have been laughing at the horrific economic decline of Detroit. Well, guess what? From coast to coast there are formerly great manufacturing cities that have turned into rotting, post-industrial war zones. In particular, in America's "rust belt" you can drive through town after town after town that resemble little more than post-apocalyptic wastelands. In many U.S. cities, the "real" rate of unemployment is over 30 percent. There are some communities that will start depressing you almost the moment you drive into them. Meanwhile, the economic downturn has been incredibly hard on the finances of state and local governments across the United States. Unlike the federal government, state and local governments cannot use the Federal Reserve to play games with their exploding debt burdens. All over the nation, deep budget cuts are slashing police departments, fire departments and other basic social services, but it seems like no matter what many of these communities try the debt just keeps growing.

So when you combine economic hopelessness with drastic budget cuts, what you get are hordes of communities from coast to coast that are becoming just like Detroit. In the city of Detroit today, there are over 33,000 abandoned houses, 44 schools have been permanently closed down, the mayor wants to bulldoze one-fourth of the city and you can literally buy a house for one dollar in the worst areas. Many Americans thought that it was funny to make fun of Detroit, but little did they know that what happened there would soon start happening everywhere.

#1 The second most dangerous city in the United States - Camden, New Jersey - is about to lay off about half its police.

#2 In the city of Camden, about the only "industries" that are truly thriving are drug-dealing and prostitution. It is estimated that there are literally dozens of open-air drug markets in Camden.

#3 The city of Newark, New Jersey laid off 13 percent of its police force just last week.

#4 Of 315 municipalities the New Jersey State Policemen's union recently surveyed, more than half indicated that they were planning to lay off police officers.

#5 At least 1000 people now live in the 200 miles of flood tunnels that exist under the city of Las Vegas.

#6 All over America, asphalt roads are being ground up and are being replaced with gravel because it is cheaper to maintain. The state of South Dakota has transformed over 100 miles of asphalt road into gravel over the past year, and 38 out of the 83 counties in the state of Michigan have transformed at least some of their asphalt roads into gravel roads.

As I have documented in article after article, the "American Dream" is rapidly becoming the American Nightmare. We were once a nation that was endlessly expanding, endlessly growing and endlessly becoming more powerful, but now just the opposite is happening.

Well, the United States has lost over 42,000 factories since 2001 and now all of America is turning into "Allentown".

Oklahoma Couple Arrested for Having Sexual Relations with Their Dog

According to police, a 13-year-old girl, along with a guardian, came forward to detectives after the girl allegedly found videos of her aunt having sexual intercourse with a dog during a time when the aunt and her husband were pressuring the teen to have sex with the husband.

Investigators say the girl was living with her aunt and aunt's husband when she discovered video recordings of her aunt having sex with a canine. The teen also reportedly found email chats between the couple discussing sexual dreams that involved the children of the house.

The teen also had a letter the couple had written encouraging the teen to have sex with her aunt's husband.

Detectives served a search warrant on the residence, seizing various recording equipment, computer equipment, DVD videos, and six grams of marijuana. Among the videos, police discovered recordings of the couple having sex with a canine.

The couple was booked into jail on charges of crimes against nature, conspiracy to commit a felony, soliciting sex with a minor, indecent exposure-indecent exhibitions of obscene material or child pornography-solicitation of minors, possession of marijuana in the presence of a child under 12, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a disorderly house.

The teen girl and three boys under the age of 15 were all removed from the home. Detectives are continuing to investigate to determine if the three boys were sexually assaulted by the couple.

Woman raped with live snake

Two white men are accused of sexually assaulting a 32-year-old woman and penetrating her with a live snake during the assault.

John D. Bullock, 24, 1003 Briar Lane, Altoona, and Damonta D. Jones, 25, 510 1/2 Platt St., each were charged Wednesday in Eau Claire County Court with a felony count of first-degree sexual assault.

Judge Paul Lenz set $30,000 cash bails for both men.

Assistant district attorney Meri Larson called the incident "a violent attack on the victim."

Larson requested the cash bail for both men for different reasons. Bullock has skipped prior court appearances for unrelated criminal charges in Eau Claire and Barron counties, while Jones is on a probation hold for two separate sexual assault convictions in Eau Claire and Racine counties, Larson said.

Bullock and Jones return to court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.

According to the criminal complaint:

The woman told police she was at Jones' residence in the early morning hours of Nov. 11 with Jones, Bullock and two female friends. The group was drinking alcohol and dancing.

At one point, one of the female friends left the residence, while the second went to take a shower. Jones then invited the woman into a bedroom to see his children's pictures.

When she walked into the bedroom, the woman said she was struck in the head with an unknown object and thrown on the floor before blacking out.

The woman said the next thing she remembered was Jones held her while Bullock sexually assaulted her.

Jones then said, "I'm going to get the snake."

The woman said a short time later she felt something inside her. She believes the snake may have bitten her because she felt a sharp pain followed by someone saying "pull it out."

Bullock told police he had sexual contact with the woman, but it was consensual.

If convicted, Bullock and Jones each could be sentenced to up to 40 years in prison.

JOLIET, Ill. (CBS/WBBM/AP) A 19-year-old suburban Chicago teen pleaded guilty to first-degree murder Thursday in the killing of his 4-year-old half sister.

Prosecutors say Keith Randulich stabbed Sabrina Clement to death in their Mokena, Ill. home on May 22, 2009.

According to CBS affiliate WBBM, Randulich called 911 about 8 p.m. that day and when police arrived, they found the girl's body in the basement.

The girl suffered what was described in court by Assistant State's Attorney Mike Fitzgerald as "numerous and massive stab wounds to her neck," according to a release from the Will County State Attorney's office.

The teen allegedly told police at the time that he had killed the girl because someone was abusing her. Because he couldn't kill her abuser, Randulich said, he killed his half sister instead.

He took the girl to the basement of his home and stabbed her to death with a steak knife while she was lying on the floor. His parents were not home at the time.

Prosecutors will argue that the crime was brutal and heinous when they ask the judge to hand down a life sentence.

"This was a crime of unspeakable cruelty and horror," said State's Attorney James Glasgow. "One cannot begin to fathom what would prompt a young man to commit such an atrocity against his little sister."

Randulich will be sentenced Jan. 25.

You can own oil, but you can’t own water. You can invest in oil and the industrial complex that finds, produces, refines and distributes it. You can invest in the industrial complex that finds, produces, treats and distributes water, but you can’t invest in water itself. Oil and its byproducts are toxic to life whereas water is essential to all life. Perhaps therein lies the origins of the difference to investors. Fresh water is, for the most part, not owned by anyone but is (in most cases) managed and distributed for the public good. The price you pay for public water is essentially the cost to transport, manage, treat, and distribute it to the tap in your home.

You can’t – at least not yet – buy water on any exchange in the world. As water supplies get tighter across the world, this could change. Water is the new oil – a precious commodity, increasingly harder to find, manage and distribute; and that supply is often subject to the whims of Mother Nature. Control of available water is subject to the whims of government. In some parts of the country, the availability of water is restricting the building of housing.

Some regions in the U.S. are learning the hard way – the Southeast is entering its third year of drought conditions. Lake Lanier, Atlanta’s main source of water is over 13 feet below normal, despite recent rainfall. See embedded drought map of the U.S. below. The world drought map doesn’t look any better.

Like oil, water must be transported from where it is found to where it will be used. Pipelines are commonly constructed to bring the water to a central collection and treatment plant. Once at the central plant, the water must be tested and brought up to potable standards. Only then is the water released into the municipal distribution system. You may have seen news stories about large consumer products companies and their quest for water to fill the millions of plastic bottles they sell each year – a lot of this water comes out of the municipal tap. You may also have seen stories about the treatment of sewage to return it to the potable water supply – this is happening now in Southern California.

Investors can tap into the water pipeline at four main places: infrastructure, treatment of water entering the system, consumer products (bottled water) and treatment of water exiting the system (sewage treatment).

You can find stocks of companies involved in the various phases of water treatment and distribution but as readers know, I am a big believer in the diversification benefits afforded by ETFs. There are currently at least four ETFs concentrating on water – primarily transportation, delivery infrastructure and treatment.

CHINA AND RUSSIA DROP DOLLAR

Russia and China have announced a decision to abandon the dollar in bilateral trade dealings, resolving instead to use their own currencies.

The decision resulted from a bilateral meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia, between Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

The Chinese yuan has now started trading against the Russian rouble in the Chinese interbank market, while the renminbi will soon be allowed to trade against the rouble in Russia, according to a report in the China Daily.

In the discussions, China agreed to purchase two nuclear reactors from Russia and prices similar to those the Russian gas giant Gazprom charges its European partners were set for the Chinese purchase of Russian natural gas.

The move marks a continued departure from utilizing the dollar as the standard of international trade, a position the dollar has held since the end of World War II.

"This latest move - a continuation in a series of efforts by both countries to move away from U.S. dollar usage in international trade - further threatens the dollar's reserve currency status," Hao Li wrote in the International Business Times. "China and Russia are gradually revolting against the U.S. dollar."

At the same time, French President Nicolas Sarkozy proposed having the yuan enter the pool of currencies in the International Monetary Fund's Special Drawing Rights, as a step to wean the international monetary system off its reliance on the dollar, Reuters reported.

"The smart thing for the IMF to do would be to put the yuan in the SDR basket today," Jim O'Neill, chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, told Reuters. "Then the SDR would have some obvious appeal to the private sector: this could quite rapidly open the door to less dependence on the dollar."

According to Reuters, the SDR currently accounts for only 4 percent of global reserves, or $308 billion; the four currencies that make up the SDR - the euro, the Japanese yen, the pound sterling and the U.S. dollar - account for only 46 percent of world trade.

A five-year review of the SDR basket completed this month excluded the yuan because it is not freely traded on international currency exchanges; the admission of the yuan into the IMF basket comprising the SDR would be a major accomplishment for yuan and a major setback for the dollar.

Clearly, Russia, China and France all anticipate the coming day when the dollar will be abandoned as the global foreign-exchange currency and the standard for settling international trades.

China objects to Fed's quantitative easing 2

At the G20 meeting in South Korea earlier this month, China denounced the Federal Reserve's plan to pump $600 billion into the U.S. economy in the next eight months through buying Treasury bonds, in a plan known generally as "Quantitative Easing 2," the Guardian in London reported.

Despite grumbling about how the Fed is debasing the dollar, China, the biggest holder of U.S. Treasury securities, boosted its holdings in September, for the third straight month, according to the Associated Press.

China's holdings of Treasury debt rose to $883.5 billion in September, a 1.7 percent increase from August.

On Oct. 14, 2010, Andrew Batson and Aaron Back reported in the Wall Street Journal that China's foreign-exchange reserves topped $2.648 trillion at the end of September, "in a record surge" that makes China's foreign-exchange reserves the largest amount ever accumulated by any nation.

China's reserves increased by $194 billion in the third quarter 2010, marking their biggest-ever quarterly gain.

Tensions with the Obama administration continue over China's refusal to allow the yuan to freely float on currency-exchange markets.

The yuan has risen only about 2.3 percent against the dollar since June, and many U.S. politicians still view China's currency as being kept intentionally undervalued as part of China's policy to boost exports.

China has repeatedly insisted its central bank will make only "gradual changes" in the exchange rate.

China cut its holdings of long-term Treasuries by $21.2 billion in June, reducing total Chinese holdings of Treasury debt to $839.7 billion, Bloomberg reported.

China has been diversifying its foreign-exchange reserves away from the dollar, in favor of the euro and gold, since June 2009, when China's holdings of U.S. Treasury debt peaked at around $950 trillion.

In fact, we could be just one supply shock away from a full-blown food crisis that would make the price spikes of 2008 look like a happy memory.

Fact is, the food crisis of 2008 never really went away.

True, food riots didn’t break out in poor countries during 2009 and warehouse stores like Costco didn’t ration 20-pound bags of rice…but supply remained tight.

Prices for basic foodstuffs like corn and wheat remain below their 2008 highs. But they’re a lot higher than they were before “the food crisis of 2008” took hold. Here’s what’s happened to some key farm commodities so far in 2010…

•Corn: Up 63%
•Wheat: Up 84%
•Soybeans: Up 24%
•Sugar: Up 55%
What was a slow and steady increase much of the year has gone into overdrive since late summer. Blame it on two factors…

•Aug. 5: A failed wheat harvest prompted Russia to ban grain exports through the end of the year. Later in August, the ban was extended through the end of 2011. Drought has wrecked the harvest in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan – home to a quarter of world production
•Oct. 8: For a second month running, the Agriculture Department cut its forecast for US corn production. The USDA predicts a 3.4% decline from last year. Damage done by Midwestern floods in June was made worse by hot, dry weather in August.
America’s been blessed with year after year of “record harvests,” depending on how you measure it. So when crisis hits elsewhere in the world, the burden of keeping the world fed falls on America’s shoulders.

According to Soren Schroder, CEO of the food conglomerate Bunge North America, US grain production has filled critical gaps in world supply three times in the last five years, including this summer…

•In 2010, when drought hit Russian wheat
•In 2009, when drought hit Argentine soybeans
•In 2007–08, when drought hit Australian wheat
So what happens when those “record harvests” no longer materialize?

In September, the US Department of Agriculture estimated that global grain “carryover stocks” – the amount in the world’s silos and stockpiles when the next harvest begins – totaled 432 million tons.

That translates to 70 days of consumption. A month earlier, it was 71 days. The month before that, 72. At this rate, come next spring, we’ll be down to just 64 days – the figure reached in 2007 that touched off the food crisis of 2008.

But what happens if the U.S. scenario is worse than a “nonrecord” harvest? What if there’s a Russia-scale crop failure here at home?

“When we have the first serious crop failure, which will happen,” says farm commodity expert Don Coxe, “we will then have a full-blown food crisis” – one far worse than 2008.

Coxe has studied the sector for more than 35 years as a strategist for BMO Financial Group. He says it didn’t have to come to this. “We’ve got a situation where there has been no incentive to allocate significant new capital to agriculture or to develop new technologies to dramatically expand crop output.”

“We’ve got complacency,” he sums up. “So for those reasons, I believe the next food crisis – when it comes – will be a bigger shock than $150 oil.”

A recent report from HSBC isn’t quite so alarming…unless you read between the lines. “World agricultural markets,” it says, “have become so finely balanced between supply and demand that local disruptions can have a major impact on the global prices of the affected commodities and then reverberate throughout the entire food chain.”

That was the story in 2008. It’s becoming the story again now. It may go away in a few weeks or a few months. But it won’t go away for good. It’ll keep coming back…for decades.

There’s nothing you or I can do to change it. So we might as well “hedge” our rising food costs by investing in the very commodities whose prices are rising now…and will keep rising for years to come.

“While investor eyes are focused on the gold price as it touches new highs,” reads a report from Japan’s Nomura Securities, “the acceleration in global food price is unrestrained. We continue to believe that soft commodities will outperform base and precious metals in the future.”

So how do you do it? As recently as 2006, the only way Main Street investors could play the trend was to buy commodity futures. It was complicated. It involved swimming in the same pool with the trading desks of the big commercial banks. And it usually involved buying on margin – that is, borrowing money from the brokerage. If the market went against you, you’d lose even more than your initial investment.

Nowadays, an exchange-traded fund can do the heavy lifting for you, no margin required. The name of the fund is the PowerShares DB Agriculture ETF (DBA).

There are at least a half-dozen ETFs that aim to profit when grain prices rise. We like DBA the best because it’s easy to understand. It’s based on the performance of the Deutsche Bank Agriculture Index, which is composed of the following:

•Corn 12.5%
•Soybeans 12.5%
•Wheat 12.5%
•Sugar 12.5%
•Cocoa 11.1%
•Coffee 11.1%
•Cotton 2.8%
•Live Cattle 12.5%
•Feeder Cattle 4.2%
•Lean Hogs 8.3%
So you have a mix here of 50% America’s staple crops of corn, beans, wheat and sugar…25% beef and pork…and 25% cocoa, coffee and cotton. It might not be a balanced diet (especially the cotton), but it makes for a good balance of assets within your first foray into “ag” investing.

The meat weighting in here looks especially attractive compared to some of DBA’s competitors, which are more geared to the grains. It takes about six months for higher grain prices to translate to higher cattle and hog prices.

You can capture that potential upside right now…and you’ll be glad you did when you sit down to a good steak dinner a few months down the line. After all, it’s going to cost you more.

What is Tel Aviv to do now that it's known Israelis and pro-Israelis 'fixed' the intelligence that induced the U.S. to war in Iraq?

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Con me consistently for six decades and the relationship is over, as is Israel's credibility as a legitimate nation state.

Tel Aviv knows this. But what can the Zionist state do about it? Answer: Wikileaks.

Why now? Misdirection. Shine the spotlight on Washington to take it off Tel Aviv. That's good old-fashioned psy-ops. And challenge the credibility of the U.S. That's Wikileaks.

Any credible forensics would start by asking: to whose benefit? Then look to means, motive and opportunity plus the presence of stable nation-state intelligence inside the U.S.

Other than Israel, who else is a credible candidate? Notice how quickly Israel's role in the peace process vanished from the news. Now it's Iran, Iran and more Iran. To whose benefit?

Tel Aviv knows that the phony intelligence on Iraq leads to those skilled at waging war "by way of deception"-the motto of the Israeli Mossad. Wikileaks are noteworthy for what's missing: the absence of any material damaging to Israeli goals.

But still Tel Aviv faces an unprecedented peril: transparency. Americans know they were duped. And Israel rightly fears that Americans will soon realize by whom.

Tepid Support will not Suffice

Obama has behaved as anticipated by those who produced his presidency. Anyone surprised at the lack of change in U.S. policy in the Middle East fails to grasp the power of the Israel lobby.

Did he hesitate to support their latest Israeli strategy for scuttling peace negotiations? Absent peace, the U.S. will continue to be the target of those outraged at America's unflinching support for Israel's thuggish behavior in pursuit of its expansionist goals.

Confirming the lobby's influence, Netanyahu announced he would not agree to halt settlements on Palestinian land until Obama reduced to writing a $3 billion bribe.

In return for a proposed 90-day freeze, what form of bribe will America provide? Twenty F-35 jets at $150 million each plus parts, maintenance, training and armaments.

That's $231 million per week or $1,373,626 per hour. What will the U.S. receive in return? A temporary partial freeze on settlements. How many more times can this ruse work?

Israel has evaded a peace agreement since it drove Palestinians from their land in 1948 and seized more land in 1967 to shape today's geopolitics.

Should Israel reach an agreement with the Palestinians, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton proposes a "comprehensive security agreement." At what cost no one knows. The U.S. Congress has already budgeted $30 billion for Israel over 10 years. This latest $3 billion is on top of that.

That doesn't include the cost to American credibility posed by an offer to veto U.N. recognition of Palestine as a state. And a pledge Never Again to pressure Israel on settlements. Plus the freeze omits East Jerusalem where Tel Aviv insists on moving ahead with new housing starts.

Timing Is Everything

By scheduling its latest incursion into Gaza between Christmas 2008 and the January 2009 Obama inaugural, Tel Aviv ensured only muted opposition during political down time in the U.S. Thus it came as no surprise to see an agent provocateur operation on Thanksgiving Day 2010 as Israel demolished a West Bank Mosque and a Palestinian village.

After seven hours of nonstop talks, Hillary Clinton praised Netanyahu as a "peacemaker." In return, he agreed only to "continue the process." Meanwhile, U.S. elections marked a major victory for Israel when incoming Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor, a Jewish Zionist, announced that the new majority would "serve as a check on the Obama administration."

The Israel lobby has good reason to gloat. Confirming ongoing duplicity, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman proclaimed: "a permanent agreement is impossible."

Wikileaks' release of confidential diplomatic cables provides Israel an opportunity to undermine U.S. relations worldwide while also inflicting lasting damage on U.S. interests in the Middle East. After this, what nation would trust the U.S. to maintain a confidence?

In October, Turkey asked that the U.S. not share intelligence with Israel. Now who dares share intelligence with the U.S.?

This may signal the beginning of the end for the Obama presidency his domestic policy failures are eclipsed by his failures in foreign policy.

This may also signal pre-staging for the 2012 presidential primary with a weakened Obama forced to name Clinton as his running mate or stepping aside so she can lead the ballot.

Her 2008 presidential campaign promised recognition of Israel as a "Jewish state" and promised an "undivided Jerusalem as the capital." Tel Aviv was elated. A second Clinton presidency would ensure another victory for Israel-and no peace.

Israeli psy-ops typically serve multiple purposes. Wikileaks is no exception.

Quakes And More Quakes
There was a minor earthquake in Nebraska that literally shook up residents in this "stable" Midwest state. TRhe tremore occurred along the northern edge of the ancient fault line I have been telling you about for years. It starts in North Texas and ends in Nebraska. Both ends have been moving, especially in Oklahoma.

There also have been tremors increasing in Southeastern Missouri and Western Tennessee along the New Madrid fault line. These rae indications of an event building in that region.

The same is happening along the St. Lawrence Seaway fault line with quakes popping up in New Brunswick, Maine and New York.

Lots of tension building in the Earth's crust right now. There will be a BIG release soon, somewhere. Same tensions are building in people. So, I expect a civil disorder event in a large city as well.

In a statement, ABC confirmed the envelope was received at the show’s production office and the substance was determined to be talcum powder.

Hazardous materials officials with the city of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI responded to CBS Studios where the hit ABC show is staged, authorities said.

An initial field screening was negative for hazardous substances, but the letter will be transported to a regional lab for further testing, FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said.

The FBI and LAPD are conducting a joint investigation, Eimiller said.
